General Information
The Brazilian Pickleball Association (Associacao Brasileiro de Pickleball) is proud to sponsor the first Latin American Pickleball Open, with an especially warm welcome to players from the countries of Latin America. But you need not be a citizen or resident of Latin America to participate. All are welcome.
The tournament will be held at the Valadares Pickleball Club in the Universitario neighborhood of the city of Governador Valadares, in Brazil's state of Minas Gerais.
Transportation to Governador Valadares
Governador Valadares has a regional airport (GVR) serviced by Azul Airlines from the city of Belo Horizonte, the state capital. The airport in Belo Horizonte (Confins - CNF) is an international airport, but many international travelers find that arriving in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Manaus, or one of the other major international airports and then transferring to CNF offers a more convenient connection.
From Belo Horizonte to Governador Valadares you have various options: by air from CNF, as previously mentioned; or by train, with tickets available at the Praca da Estacao ("Station Plaza") in downtown Belo Horizonte (travel time 7 hours, price approx US$15); by intercity bus from downtown Belo Horizonte at the Estacao Rodoviaria ("Bus Station" in Portuguese) (travel time 6 hours, price approx US$28); and, of course, by car (320 km, travel time approx 5 hours via Highway BR 381).
The city of Vitoria also has train and bus connections to Governador Valadares with similar prices and travel times.
Accommodation and Travel Within Governador Valadares
The city offers several hotels accustomed to hosting international visitors. Some of the popular ones include the San Diego Suites, Benvenuto Palace Hotel, Ibituruna Center Hotel, Hotel Pedra Negra, Pousada Jeito de Minas. Check also your favorite travel/booking site online.
The city center is approximately 5 km from the site of the tournament and there are safe city buses and ride services through Uber, 99, and In-Driver, in addition to local taxis. Prices range from approximately US$2.50 to US$4.00 one-way.
Extra Activities
At the close of the Latin American Open, the Associacao Brasileira de Pickleball invites all participants to a final celebration with Brazilian food, music and dancing. The cost of this event is included in your registration fee.
We also recognize that many players may want to explore the variety of restaurants that the city offers on the other evenings. Some may prefer to explore independently, while others may wish to join up with an organized group. We estimate that the cost of the group outings organized by the Associacao will cost approximately US$20 per person each night. More information and a sign-up sheet will be forthcoming. Payment for the group restaurant meals will be collected on site at check-in.

My physical and mental condition was either verified by a medical doctor or at least proved during my previous sport activities, such as, but not limited to, playing various sports such as tennis, racquetball, squash, pickleball or any other aerobic sport). Herewith I confirm that I am aware of my full responsibility for all and any risks connected to any potential injury or damage that can happen to me while competing at this event. I explicitly confirm, that by my electronic signature I will not pursue any claim, damages, present and future rights of action which may be related to my participation in this event. I am also explicitly and specifically releasing and discharging myself, my heirs, executors, administrators and organizers of this event. Furthermore, I am also releasing the facility, its members, employees, sponsors and anyone who would be ever associated or connected to this event.
WAIVER/RELEASE FOR COMMUNICABLE DISEASES INCLUDING COVID-19
ASSUMPTION OF RISK / WAIVER OF LIABILITY / INDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT
In consideration of being allowed to participate in this tournament, by completing my registration, I acknowledge, appreciate, and agree that:
1. Participation includes possible exposure to and illness from infectious diseases including but not limited to MRSA, influenza, and COVID-19. While particular rules and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious illness and death does exist; and,
2. I KNOWINGLY AND FREELY ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS, both known and unknown, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEES or others, and assume full responsibility for my participation; and,
3. I willingly agree to comply with the stated and customary terms and conditions for participation as regards protection against infectious diseases. If, however, I observe any unusual or significant hazard during my presence or participation, I will remove myself from participation and bring such to the attention of the nearest official immediately; and,
4. I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, HEREBY RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS SS Pickleball llc their officers, officials, agents, and/or employees, other participants, sponsoring agencies, sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the event ("RELEASEES"), WITH RESPECT TO ANY AND ALL ILLNESS, DISABILITY, DEATH, or loss or damage to person or property, WHETHER ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF RELEASEES OR OTHERWISE, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
