RULES Overview Play will be on the designated day and time advertised for your league division and according to the schedule. The location is set by the schedule and also noted by the host team. The host team must coordinate court reservations, gate access, and any other instructions for play, usually handled, from captain to captain. The home team is responsible to report the scores to Pete. Pete's Cell is 239-848-6943, and his email is Petedpickleballcoaching@gmail.com
Rosters will be comprised of up to 8 players at the designated skill level for the division of the league in which they are participating. Teams may not use a player that is on the roster of another team, doing so will result in a loss of the match. If you have not filled your 8 roster spots, and you need a sub, you can add them with Pete mid-season but it must be done prior to the match, and the person cannot be on another team's roster. Only players who have played in a minimum of one regular-season match are eligible for playoffs, even if they are on the roster. This will prevent playoff day ringers. Rosters for all teams will be provided to the league administrator prior to the season start date. Updates and additions to rosters, if allowed by rule, will be sent to and discussed with the league administrator prior to players being allowed to participate. Approval of this is required for additions to be allowed and must occur before weekly league play.
Matches will be the best 2 out of 3 sets. The first 2 sets will be played to 15 points, and you must win by one. Teams will switch sides at 8 points. If it goes to a third set, the match is to 11pts, win by 1pt. The away team will call the toss at the beginning of the A and B matches. If the match results are split after the A’s and B’s play, one A team member, and one B team member will play together as the tie-breaker team. The tiebreaker team must be made up of one male and one female in mixed-division matches. The captains will provide each other with the new players for the tiebreaker and record their names. The home team will then have the opportunity to call the coin toss and the tiebreaker will begin. The tie-breaker match will be 1 set to 11, win by one, and switch sides at 6. All matches will be allowed one, 60-second timeout per team, per set. The timeout can be called by the players on the court or by the Captain or the Captain's designee from the sidelines. There will be no coaching during the match only on timeouts and changeovers.
In the event of an injury or a player no-showing, place the missing person in the B match, and still play the A match. The B match will be an automatic loss for the team without the player, but if their A team wins, those two games will be split, and tiebreaker rules will be used to determine the match outcome. One player from the winning A team, and the solo B player will make up the tiebreaking team for the short-handed team. We will use the USAPA official rules set (https://www.usapa.org/docs/ifp/USAPA-Rulebook.pdf) as our guide, but since this is a fun league, sportsmanship and discretion are encouraged.
League Rules prevent players from calling a ball out while it is in the air. For the courtesy of all players, if a ball is in the air and you wish to communicate with your partner not to hit it use the word "bounce" or "no" Time-outs can be called by the players on the court or their captain or captain's designee from the sideline. Coaching is only allowed during timeouts and changeovers. No line calls or other unnecessary comments from spectators, please! The official league ball is the Franklin X40. Please use this ball for all match play. Make-ups for rainouts will be the immediate Sunday following the missed date, at 11 am at the court identified in the schedule. If both captains can agree on a different date and time for the make-up and notify the league administrator, that is also acceptable as long as rainout make-ups are completed within the same week. Matches not completed within the same week will result in a loss for both teams. The first tiebreaker in standings will be head-to-head results. "
Thank you & Have a great season!
